Gokyo Lakes system is a cluster of freshwater lakes in Everest Region with 19 lakes spread at an area of 485 acres at an altitude of 4700 – 5,100 m. from sea level making worlds one of the highest freshwater lakes . The major 5 lakes altogether named Gokyo Cho ( Cho is a local language for the lake ) with an area of 106 acres and the main lake with Gokyo village across, Thonak Cho is the largest lake, Gyazumpa Cho, Tanjung Cho, Ngojumba cho are in the Gokyo trek route and popularly known as 1st lake, Second, Third, Fourth and Fifth lakes by trekkers.
This Gokyo Lake Trek starts with the flight to Lukla similar as to Everest Base Camp trek and follows the same route up to Namche. After 2 hrs walk from Namche towards Everest, the trail forks and upper trail leads to Gokyo and the lower towards the Everest Base Camp. There are some popular passes as well called Cho La pass which can be done from Lobuche to Gokyo or Renjo La pass from Thame to Gokyo. So, there are many other places to explore during the Gokyo lake trek.
